Construction started in December 2001, and the hotel opened in February 2005. The total construction cost was around $ 3 billion. Thus, the Emirates Palace is not only one of the most beautiful but also one of the most expensive hotels in the world. More specifically, it ranks #2 after "The Cosmopolitan Hotel" in Las Vegas.

5kg of gold are consumed here every year. Yes, you read that right: Consumed! We are talking about edible, pure gold leaf, which is used for decorating food and beverages. The cheapest option and a touch of this luxury is the "Palace Cappuccino", sprinkled with real gold chips for the equivalent of 22$.
